This post is for a Senior Clinical Fellow / ST5 or above (new curriculum) in Cardiology. Specialist interest in intervention or EP and devices can be specifically accommodated. This is a post created to support the
Tier 2 cardiology services at Norfolk & Norwich University NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will join the cardiology department in providing inpatient and outpatient care for cardiology patients with, if required, the ability to have a specialist focus. This post is available until 3rd of September 2024, with the possibility of further extension.

The appointee will have appropriate experience in general cardiology. The successful applicant should meet the requirements of the core capabilities of the New Curriculum in Cardiology (2022). The appointee will be responsible to the Cardiology service director who will review the post holder's progress and career development. A postgraduate qualification (MRCP or equivalent) is essential. The appointee should have sufficient cardiology experience, with consultant support, to deal with patients admitted through a primary PCI service as well as the specialist cardiology advice required from the range of medical and surgical specialties of a large hospital. There are no general internal medicine responsibilities in the post.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will join a resident on call 1:9 rota with 8 other existing Cardiology Speciality registrars. All Specialty Registrars help in the provision of service of the Primary PCI 24/7 service at the Norfolk & Norwich Foundation NHS Trust which started in April 2009. It also assists in delivery with hospital at night with cardiological problems. The post will include outpatient clinics, specialty catheter lab lists, duty triage rounds of unselected cardiology referrals, audit and teaching. Videoconferences take place with Papworth for surgery, The Heart Hospital for ACHD, and for Maternal Medicine. Multidisciplinary meetings and audit meetings take place for cardiac pacing, EP and PCI. There is ward based echo machine for use by registrars.

This post can offer experience in complex PCI, complex devices or EP. and will be attached to the relevant specialty team as required.

We provide a wide range of consultant-led outpatient services, day case operations and a Minor Injuries Unit (MIU). The trust is commemorated 150 years of a hospital in Cromer in 2017/18.
